Arbour Academy Mission Statement

Caring for young people and their families, providing them with opportunities to learn and flourish.

Our Intent

Our intent is to work with children and their families, schools and a range of professionals, including medical staff to support pupils to attend school, to engage with and enjoy learning, to achieve and to become confident and independent adults living fulfilled lives.

Our Values

The four key values which underpin the work of Arbour Academy are: Belonging, Engaging, Compassion, Learning.

BELONGING: We can succeed together

ENGAGING: We make the most of every opportunity

COMPASSION: We care about ourselves and each other

LEARNING: We enjoy learning and are inspired to learn

Behaviours

All staff are directed to regard behaviour as a form of communication. Arbour Academy pupils are treated with unconditional positive regard, according to person-centred principles. Stages of child development are taken into account when managing behaviour, as the majority of pupils have experienced trauma; there is not a 'one size fits all' rewards and sanctions approach. Pupils have a regularly reviewed risk assessment, depending on individual need. Rewards and/or consequences are selected to meet the needs of the individual pupil in a considered, graduated manner. Pupils' life experiences are appraised when gauging appropriate consequences and rewards.

Pupils are expected to:

  • Behave in an orderly and self-controlled way
  • Show respect to members of staff and each other
  • In class, make it possible for all pupils to learn
  • Move calmly around the school
  • Treat the school buildings and school property with respect
  • Wear the correct uniform at all times
  • Accept sanctions when given
  • Refrain from behaving in a way that brings the school into disrepute, including when outside school.
